2e Tuesday - Seps

That's right, Gamma World 2d edition... what 2e did you think I meant?  Every Tuesday I will pick one of my favorite monsters from the fully illustrated bestiary included in the 2d edition Gamma World Basic Rules Booklet and convert it to Mutant Future.  Today's monster is...

Seps (Land Sharks)

No. Enc: 1d6
Alignment:  Neutral
Movement: 120' (40')
Armor Class: 4
Hit Dice: 13
Attacks: 1 (bite)
Damage:  9d6
Save:  L7
Morale: 8
Hoard Class: none

Swimming through the earth with a special telekinetic mutation that moves earth and loose stones out of their way, Seps or Land Sharks are vicious predators of the Mutant Future.  Locating prey on the surface with their prey sense mutation that allows them to detect sound and motion from 180' away even when underground, they leap into the air to attack with their savage bite.  After each bite, they dive back into the ground and attack from a different direction two rounds later.  If they kill a victim, they drag it back underground to consume it at their leisure.

Mutations:  Special (earthswim, prey sense)

  1. Very nasty critter! One thing I did when creating a similar-ish "landswimmer" was to give it a slightly slower movement rate when "hyperburrowing" (my term for earthswim). If a sep moves at the same rate underground as it does above, good deal though! (Although, it may move FASTER underground than on the surface. The PCs would panic if it lumbered on the surface and, the sec it went under, shot up elsewhere within moments!)

  3. @sniderman - my reading of the original Gamma World beastie is that it really doesn't move around at all on the land. It swims around underground and only is above the surface for long enough to jump out, bite and dive back under - much like a regular shark swims around underwater and only would leap out for a few brief moments.

If you somehow managed to trap one on land, I imagine it would have a very slow movement rate indeed.
