2e Tuesday - Yexils (Orange Scarfers)

That's right, Gamma World 2nd edition... what 2e did you think I meant?  Every Tuesday I will pick one of my favorite monsters from the fully illustrated bestiary included in the 2d edition Gamma World Basic Rules Booklet and convert it to Mutant Future.  Today's monster is...
Yexils (Orange Scarfers)

No. Enc: 1d4
Alignment:  Lawful
Movement:
                  Fly: 240' (60')
Armor Class: 5
Hit Dice: 15
Attacks: 1 (bite)
Damage:  3d6
Save:  L12
Morale: 3
Hoard Class: VIII + Unique (Yexils horde clothing and their "treasure" will also consist of various synthetic fabrics)

Yexils bring a smile to the face of any entrepreneurial residents of the Mutant Future.  These flying leonine creatures have a ravenous appetite for manufactured fabrics (the only thing they eat) and will trade "worthless" artifacts that they have found as they fly over the wastelands for particularly tasty synthetics.  Yexils have few natural enemies due to their size, deadly bite and the laser beams they shoot from their eyes!

Mutations:  Reflective Epidermis (cold), Unique (Laser Eyes, 80' range, 5d6 damage)

This really is a great illustration.  Honestly, this might be Gamma World in a nutshell - a lion-bat that shoots lasers from its eyes and eats synthetic clothing.  Take that, all you overly serious post-apocalyptic sci-fi games!

  1. Long ago (well over a decade now) I got into a gigantic internet slapfight on the Gamma World mailing list just because I said yexils were "trippy". I still maintain that they are pretty damn trippy, but having somewhat embraced the gonzo side of GW and gaming in general, I don't think trippy is really a bad thing.

Dave Trampier did a pretty awesome illo of the yexil in the 1st. edition rulebook. BTW.

  2. Gonzo but nice. For me, the Yexils brought to mind the Manticore's equivalent of the Mutant Future.

  3. FYI It not stated outright, but Creatures of the Wastelands have a type of mutant silkworm that can produce nylon, polyester, and other synthetic textiles that Yexils really enjoy (after they are made into clothing, of course).

Never be thrown-off by their goofy look or easygoing attitudes. If they are staved for clothing and a party is not agreeable, they will pounce on them and tear their cloths off! They give a whole new meaning to “edible underwear.” ;P

  4. @Malcadon - so what you are saying is they are a spandex-wearing superhero's worst nightmare?

I considered slightly tweaking the Yexils to enable a synergy with the Hoops - if they liked eating rubber, imagine the havoc that a bunch of Hoops and Yexils could cause! In the end, I decided to be faithful to the original.

  5. I choose not to pick up the gauntlet you have thrown down, simply due to my love of Gamma World.
--I'm more of an Obb girl, truth be told (and yes, I read your write-up). :)

    > off to write more of my overly serious P-A RPG <

    ;) :D

  6. @Carl - Yes, but not really a bad thing when sexy super-heroines are involved! ;)

Mind you, they would only steal your PC's clothing if they are desperate for food, or the GM is feeling really kinky. =P
